Event Mapster is operated as a personal project at eventmapster.com. We're a community-driven map for discovering and sharing local events — holiday light displays, food trucks, yard sales, neighborhood markets, and similar happenings. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@eventmapster.com.
What we collect
When you sign in with Facebook, we receive your name, email address, profile picture, and Facebook user ID from Facebook.
When you use the service, we store the listings you submit (event title, description, address, dates, photos), photos you upload, and any host profile details you create.
Automatically, we collect your browser-reported geolocation only when you grant permission, and we use it to center the map on you. We do not store geolocation. We also receive basic device and browser information through normal server logs (e.g., IP address, request times). One HttpOnly authentication cookie is set on your browser when you log in.
How we use it
We use this information to:
- Display listings on a public map and in search results.
- Authenticate you and keep you signed in.
- Show your host profile to other users so they can find your events.
- Run the import-from-URL feature when you trigger it.
Third-party processors
We share data with the following providers, each of which handles data per its own policies:
- Cloudflare — hosts the website (Cloudflare Pages), stores listing photos (R2), and serves images via CDN at cdn.eventmapster.com.
- Railway — hosts the backend service and the Postgres database.
- Facebook (Meta) — provides OAuth login.
- Anthropic — Claude API extracts event details from images you choose to import.
- Google — Places API geocodes addresses you submit and validates locations.
We do not sell your personal information.
What's public
Listings, host profiles, and listing photos are visible to anyone who visits the site — that's the point of the service. Your email address and Facebook user ID are not displayed publicly.
Cookies
We use one strictly-necessary cookie: an HttpOnly authentication cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
Your rights
You can:
- View and edit data tied to your account through your profile page.
- Delete your account (see Data deletion below).
- Email privacy@eventmapster.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data.
Data retention
We retain your account and listing data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove all associated data — your account, hosts, listings, uploaded photos, upvotes, saved locations, and reports — immediately. We do not maintain backups from which deleted data could be restored. Server logs containing IP addresses and request times may be retained by our hosting provider for a limited period in line with their standard log retention.
Data deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time:
- If you can sign in: go to your Profile page, scroll to Delete account in the Danger zone, and confirm. This immediately and permanently removes your account, all hosts you own, all their listings, listing photos, upvotes, saved locations, and reports.
- If you can no longer sign in (for example, you've lost access to your Facebook account): email privacy@eventmapster.com from the email address tied to your account, or include enough detail for us to identify it. We will process the deletion within 30 days.
Deletion is permanent. We do not keep backups from which deleted data can be restored.
Children
The service is not directed to anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
International users
Event Mapster is operated from the United States, and your data is processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top.
